Partnering with Virginia 4-H and the Virginia Master Naturalist program, we've designed an activity packed club for youth ages 9 - 18 to get out and explore nature in our area.
As a homeschool mom of two with a passion for nature, I wanted to create a way for youth interested in nature and our environment to connect and learn together. I moved to Virginia over five years ago and started a community based 4-H club in Stafford county, Virginia, and learned so much about leading a club through that experience. 4-H is about learning through doing and it provides a structured approach to help youth become leaders. During this time, I also joined the Virginia Master Naturalist program. This program introduced training on the plants, animals, and ecosystems that make up our local environment. The Virginia Master Naturalist program also promotes service through stewardship, outreach, and citizen science projects.
I decided to bring the structure of 4-H together with the education and service components of the Virginia Master Naturalist program to provide a low-to-no cost club with enough flexibility to accommodate youth over a larger area. With the approval of Master Naturalists and 4-H extension agents, I'm so delighted to be able to launch this club.
I can't do this alone - if you are interested in helping, please contact me. If your family is interested in what this club has to offer, please review our program year and Join us!
